One way we love to stay in-the-know with everything that’s going on in the design world is by listening to podcasts. They’re awesome resources to get inspired, motivated, and learn from other creatives that have found success in their fields and built incredible movements. Podcasts are quick to download, great for commuting to work, and will give your eyes the break they deserve after hours of staring at a phone or computer screen. Our team here at Vedia got together to share and discuss some of our favorite ones recently, and now we want to share them with you. Check out 5 of our favorite design and creative podcasts below, plus a bonus documentary that we can’t get enough of.
99% Invisible
Hosted once-upon-a-time from the bedroom of creator and host Roman Mars, this podcast is about all the thought that goes into the things we don’t think about — the unnoticed architecture and design that shape our world. From the origin of inflatable men used in car lots to Sigmund Freud’s furniture selection, everything random and obscure is talked about and talked out.
Design Matters
Founded by creative Debbie Millman, Design Matters is the world’s first podcast about design and an inquiry into the broader world of creative culture through wide-ranging conversations with designers, writers, artists, curators, musicians, and other luminaries of contemporary thought
Being Boss
As you may have guessed, this podcast is all about being a boss, all day every day. It’s a podcast for creative entrepreneurs, hosted by Emily Thompson & Kathleen Shannon. This is how the dynamic duo explains their shows: “Our listeners (our tribe!) want to ‘be boss.’ They are the rebels, the quiet ones, the schemers, and the dreamers! So our stories, advice and interviews are about being boss the way we choose, and being who we are in work and life! We love sharing ‘you got this’ confidence, and ‘let’s get real’ advice from other boss guests…because whether you’re being boss in your work, life, day job, or dream job – we want you to know, we’re in it with you.”
How I Built This
This podcast is about how some of the world’s best known companies and brands came to be, narrated by its founders. Each episode is a journey marked by triumphs, failures, serendipity and insight. Hosted by Guy Raz, it’s about building from the ground up; real life rags-to-riches kind of stories.
Radio Lab
This show about curiosity and the exploration of how sound illuminates ideas, and the boundaries blur between science, philosophy, and human experience. It’s made up of a large, dynamic staff who will consistently keep your mind thinking, racing, and intrigued.
BONUS: So, it’s not a podcast, but we’re really obsessed with the Netflix series…
